THE PROJECT
Carril Solar is a 400 MW nominal Solar PV project located in the Puerto Lumbreras and Lorca municipalities of Murcia, Spain.
HOUSEHOLDS
It will provide with sustainable energy the equivalent to 300.000 households, corresponding to 80% of the demand of Murcia.
ENVIRONMENT
Through the production of clean, sustainable energy the project displaces CO2 emissions by approximately 250.000 tons per year.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC
The project will provide economic stability, diversify income sources and add value to an area that has been dependent on agriculture.
EMPLOYMENT
The project will create new and stable jobs
in Murcia, an area where economic
diversity is urgently needed.
COMPATIBILITY
Compatibility with current agricultural and farming activity in the project area is a top priority for Carril Solar.

Desarrollos Fotovoltaicos Carril 400, SLU is a Spanish company founded to develop the Carril Solar PV project in the Murcia region, more specifically within the Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras municipalities.

WHY SOLAR?
The implied reduction of dependence on fossil and nuclear fuels, numerous environmental advantages, the stability of the resource as compared with other renewable sources, its modularity and scalability as well as the overall trend of technology price reduction, makes photovoltaic solar energy a unique solution, particularly in Murcia, one of the best solar resource areas in Europe.
WHY PUERTO LUMBRERAS?
In this specific case, a radius of 15km was marked from the substation of Carril, resulting in several options. Taking into account that the connection is close to the border of the Murcia and Andalusia regions, it was decided to choose an option that keeps the project within the region of Murcia. Other relevant aspects were analyzed, such as environmental impact, orography of the land, excellent solar resource, accesses and existing infrastructure, population density and socio-economic repercussion on the territory. As a result of all these assessments, it was decided to select the Puerto Adentro area within the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras as the project location.
